Charlie Gilbert - Intelligence Advisor
Charlie Gilbert is currently Director of Intelligence and member of the Executive Board at Gavin de Becker and Associates (GDBA). GDBA provides consultation, security, and protection services to many of the world’s most prominent and at-risk individuals.
Prior to joining GDBA, Mr. Gilbert spent 26 years in the Directorate of Operations at the Central Intelligence Agency. A three-time Chief of Station, Mr. Gilbert served PCS tours in India, the UAE, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and Italy; and had numerous TDY assignments around the world.
Mr. Gilbert’s Headquarters tours included Chief of Iranian Operations, Chief of Out-of-Embassy Operations, and Deputy Director of the National Clandestine Service.
Mr. Gilbert’s awards and citations include two Donovan Awards, Two Meritorious Unit Citations, the CIA Trailblazer Award, the Intelligence Medal of Merit, DO Manager of the Year, and the Director’s Award. Mr. Gilbert has studied Mandarin, Farsi, Russian, and Italian but only claims fluency in American English.
Mr. Gilbert holds a Master’s degree in international business from Thunderbird and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado. Prior to joining the CIA, he was an international commodities trader. Mr. Gilbert was raised in Boulder, Colorado and Kabul, Afghanistan. He currently lives in Northern Virginia with Terri, his wife of 41 years. They have one son.
