Our Purpose
Advancing U.S. Embassy Readiness Through Training, Coordination, and Innovation
Why We Act
With the resurgence of great power competition, interagency coordination at American embassies is essential to achieve U.S. national objectives. Today, DSF works with a wide range of departments and agencies within the national security apparatus, as well as with non-governmental organizations and educational institutions, to improve diplomatic coordination and the training of American personnel.
What We Have Done
DSF has produced reports on National Security Council and State Department Reform, developed and conducted five training exercises, provided testimony to both the House and Senate on coordination and training, worked to educate Americans about the role of diplomacy and the purpose of embassies, and developed educational material for college and graduate level classes. To date DSF has provided training for hundreds of American foreign service, military, intelligence, and development officers.
What We Enable
DSF works to sponsor new, impactful programs that can be rapidly deployed. This entire effort has been supported by private sectorfunding from major foundations and high net worth individuals.
In the words of Ambassador Daniel Smith, former Director of FSI, “There are things that we simply can’t do with the resources we have, and I think [this partnership with] the US Diplomatic Studies Foundation will enable us to do those things in a way that we may have never envisioned before.”
DSF has a unique capability to train embassy personnel before their deployment abroad.
